As a pop-oriented audience that was younger was served by disco in contrast to ZDF's hit parade, also its main competitor was Beat-Club, followed Musikladen.
Repeats of Disco have been since 1984 on ZDF Musikkanal, as a result of its close down at 1989 on 3sat. Since 2004, the ZDF Theaterkanal aired repeats of the series. To broadcast reruns, ZDF Dokukanal started in 2007, beginning with episodes from 1975 and repeats of this show have been shown from 2008 on hit24.
The series focussed during that time of broadcasting current on chart hits, giving roughly equivalent airtime to German Schlager and international pop music. Despite its name, it did not focus on disco music although it featured disco strikes as long as these were chart relevant. .
