The Andy Griffith Show is a American sitcom televised on CBS between October 3, 1960 and April 1, 1968. Andy Griffith portrays the widowed sheriff of Mayberry, North Carolina's fictional small community. His life is complicated by an inept, but well meaning deputy, Barney Fife, a spinster aunt and housekeeper, Aunt Bee, and a young son, Opie. -bumbling pals do-wells, and temperamental girl friends. Andy Griffith stated in a Today Show interview, connected to the full time period of the show:"Well, though we never said , and though it was taken in the'60s, it had an atmosphere of this'30s. It had been we were doing so , of a period gone ."
The series stopped its season at number one and never placed below . It's been ranked by TV Guide since the 9th-best show in American television history. Series Knotts and Bavier accumulated a total of six Emmy Awards though Griffith nor the show won awards during its eight-season series. The show, a semi-spin-off in a episode of The Danny Thomas Show titled"Danny Meets Andy Griffith", spawned its own spin-off collection, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., a sequel collection, Mayberry R.F.D., and a reunion telemovie, Return to Mayberry. The enduring popularity of the show has generated a fantastic deal of show-related product. Re runs air on TV Land, and also the total series is available on DVD.
